LEGACYThe place where it happens
Rehearsals begin with games and storytelling circles, then spill outdoors—bare feet in sand, palm shade overhead, the ocean always nearby. Kids devise short pieces about family life, school, reef fishing, weather, and local myths—building voice, confidence, and ensemble trust.
Cultural exchange
What we learn
We learn how reef-coast life shapes imagination—tide cycles, weather, boats, and the collective rhythm of a village that lives with the sea.
What we share
We share portable devising formats designed for outdoors—story structures that can travel across school yard, sand, and shoreline without needing a theatre building.
Community & context
In Matemwe, school, work, and ocean are intertwined. The club gave kids a creative container to reflect that reality back to their community—joyfully, honestly, and in their own voice.
Shared community needs
- Durable costumes/props and basic supplies that can handle heat, sand, and salt air
- Support for consistent local facilitation and youth leadership roles
- Resources for community sharings that include families and elders
